The Many Facets of Rape

Image
Dear readers, So, I had a Civic Education class today and we debated about what we thought had led to such an influx of rape cases lately. Some of us were of the opinion that it was due to the fact that the authorities were busy dealing with COVID cases that there were opportunities for people to rape and be raped. We continued talking but after it all, I realized that there were so many undiscussed things about rape that people needed to be informed about. So this post is more of a lesson than our usual one-sided discussion. Firstly, rape is two-sided. That is, both males and females can be raped. So let’s discard that illusion that only females are raped. Okay, let’s get started. 1.       There is absolutely no reason whatsoever for rape. A lot of rape perpetrators give the excuse that they were misled by the females attire or dressing. Though it’s on the part of the woman to dress responsibly especially as she’s socializing in public, her indecent ...

Pot of Dying Culture Stew

“Xiu Ying, you’re running late for the ceremony!” “Ohmigods, Mom I don’t even want to go for the stupid ceremony” “Young lady, this ‘stupid ceremony’ has been in your family for over 10 generations! Have some respect” “I bet in the next ten years, this stupid ceremony won’t even exist.” “What did you say?!” “Nothing.”         ************************************************************************************************************* Dear readers,  This is an example of the fast disintegration of culture in the race to fit in with this ‘New Age’. There was once a time when we were all proud of who we were and what we represented but in the bid to be number 1 everywhere we discard our personalities and become shadows of shadows. I read an article about this and something there really struck me: Cultural diversity is the quality of diverse or different cultures, as opposed to monoculture, the global monoculture, or a homogeni...

Police Brutality

If you can’t help it, change it! This thought struck me as I watched the news on the charge Derek Chauvin was getting for murdering George Floyd (second degree murder). In general, I think, the problem was not only racism but police brutality. Because to be quite honest, we aren’t even sure whether Chauvin is a racist! We claim he killed George Floyd because he was black but there isn’t any official statement stating that Chauvin did kill Mr. Floyd because he was black. Officially, police brutality  is the use of excessive and/or unnecessary force by personnel affiliated with law enforcement duties when dealing with suspects and civilians. I think we can all mention one example of police brutality done lately. Unofficially, it’s just when supposed law officers don’t have any reason to beat up people but still proceed to do so. Now, as I’m sure we all know, police brutality didn’t just pop up now. In fact, its first case was in America around 1872 when a civilian was ...

The Wrong Thing Part 2

Dear readers, Back to what we were saying. Firstly, fighting will get us nowhere. So we fight for blacks today. Even look at it. Not to be rude or anything, but some of you don't even know what you are fighting for! To some of you, you see people tagging each other and creating the Minnosetan Funds and you're like 'Sounds like fun!' and you start posting pictures of black people carrying posters that shout for freedom and you consider you have done your part. WRONG!!!  And to the people who ARE actually fighting, I congratulate you on your strength to take no more and decide to fight for what is right. But there's something I have to ask you: WHAT DO YOU WANT? Yep, you heard me. No, I am not kidding. and yes I've seen what is written on your posters. But what do you actually want? You make posters that say black lives matter. Obviously, it doesn't matter to those policemen if they could kill all those black people. Problem 1. Now, posters are...

The Wrong Thing

Dear readers, We have all made a grievous mistake – including me. We were so fired up after the brutal murder of George Floyd that we let our emotions get the better of us. Sometimes, we need to look at the whole picture. There are two parts to what I’m about to say. Firstly, we’re fighting for the wrong thing. Yes, Black People in America have been oppressed for years and it’s right for them to want their own pound of flesh but when all is truly said and done, what will we, as a whole, have accomplished except for more bloodshed, tears and a burning hatred? Yesterday I watched a movie called American Son on Netflix (I think we should all watch that movie). It put my whole perspective on George Floyd’s death and racism upside down. As I’ve said before, fighting won’t get us anywhere. And we’re partly to blame for some of the racist issues. While not all policemen are the moral figures that they’re portrayed to be in storybooks, they are policemen for a reason. A policeman i...

Calling All Floydians Part 2

When a white man kills a black man, it is called self-defense but when a black man kills a white man it is called murder. When a black man kills a black man, it is called gang violence but when a white man kills a white man it is called an accident. When a Muslim kills a white man, he is called a terrorist but when a white man kills a Muslim he is written off as mentally unstable and shipped to a nice psychiatrist facility. I don’t think we can call what happened to George Floyd an act of racism. Why? Because, my dear readers, racism is the belief that one race is superior to another or OTHERS.   Even in this time of COVID19, you won’t see the police trying to gun down a Chinese guy for trying to pass on a suspected fake 20 bucks. I don’t think we can call any of this racism. It’s only focused on us blacks. It’s like they’ve got a problem against us alone. If you should search up racism anywhere, you would see that it’s focused on black people alo...

Calling all Floydians

Terrance Franklin Ariane McCree   Miles Hall Samuel David Mallard George Floyd ************************************** These are very few examples of black people who were unfairly killed in 'incidents' with the police.  Racism is the belief that groups of humans possess different behavioural traits corresponding to physical appearance and can be divided based on the superiority of one race over another. The very thought that one race is 'superior' to another is complete and utter  bullsh*t. Everybody's perfect just the way we are. I think racism isn't a belief of superiority but rather the result of intimidation of that supposed 'superiority'. i.e Racism didn't just spring up from the ground. It came from the fat tat because black people where first known for slavery, the fact that those 'slaves' suddenly started eating ideas of their own was ludicrous.  Speaking of that, look at it? You believe you're  superior to us? ...
